THE OPPORTUNITY
Less repetition. More momentum.

Verification should support trust without turning every new product experience into another onboarding form.

Reduce duplicate requests

Coordinate what has already been verified before asking customers for the same documents again.

02
Built around controls

Design access, consent, screening and record sharing into the proposed integration.

03
Create room to grow

Bring onboarding, wallets and payment experiences into a more coordinated customer journey.

A thoughtful path from verified to ready.

Every implementation is subject to identity standards, user permissions, jurisdictional requirements and partner approval.

BUILT AROUND
TRUST & CONTROL
01
Verify your customer

The customer completes the identity checks required by the original service.

02
Review reliance eligibility

The receiving service determines whether existing checks, records and controls are acceptable.

03
Share information securely

Approved data is transferred with appropriate consent, safeguards and an agreed integration.

04
Continue the journey

Eligible users can proceed without unnecessary repetition; additional checks remain available when required.

PRIVACY BY DESIGN
A smoother flow should never mean fewer safeguards.

KYC reliance is not a shortcut around identity verification. It is a controlled approach to deciding when an existing verification may be accepted by another service.

Identity continuity should be designed with data protection and compliance responsibilities from day one.
Consent and purpose

Design disclosure, permissions and lawful data use into the user journey.

Data minimization

Share only the information and evidence genuinely needed for the agreed process.

Partner due diligence

Evaluate the original verification provider, quality of checks and the receiving party's obligations.

Ongoing review

Keep sanctions screening, risk decisions, transaction monitoring and escalation processes in scope.

Important things to understand before designing KYC reliance.

Designed with appropriate verification and risk controls
What is KYC Reliance?
KYC Reliance is an arrangement in which one service may rely on customer identity checks performed by another party, subject to legal requirements, due diligence, appropriate information sharing and approval by the receiving service.
Does KYC Reliance mean a customer never needs to verify again?
No. Existing checks may not be sufficient, and extra identity checks can still be required based on the jurisdiction, risk profile, verification quality, transaction type or provider policy.
Is it the same as Auth Pass-through?
No. Auth Pass-through concerns whether a user is signed in. KYC Reliance concerns whether existing identity-verification evidence can be accepted. A user may be authenticated without being sufficiently verified.
Can any provider's KYC results be reused?
Not automatically. The receiving party must evaluate the original provider, the relevant verification standard, current data, legal basis and practical ability to obtain the required records.
Do users need to consent to data sharing?
Applicable privacy and financial-services laws determine the required legal basis and disclosures. Where consent is used, it should be meaningful and documented. The integration must be designed around applicable rules.
What identity information might be exchanged?
Depending on the agreement, it may include identity details, verification status and supporting evidence. Data minimization, secure transfer and access controls should be considered from the start.
Are AML and sanctions checks still required?
Relevant AML, sanctions and ongoing monitoring obligations remain. Reliance on a previous identity check does not automatically transfer away regulatory responsibility.
Can this be used in multiple countries?
Potentially, but eligibility varies by jurisdiction and provider. Each proposed market and participant needs a specific legal and compliance review.
Can we use a KYC provider we already work with?
That may be possible, depending on the receiving service's approved providers and verification requirements. The technical and compliance feasibility should be assessed before launch.
Is a KYC Reliance API already available?
This page describes an integration approach, not a live public API. Actual support, commercial terms and technical scope must be confirmed directly with PapyrusPay.
